Wheelie
bins – coming to your house soon
If you live in Herefordshire start expecting delivery of
your wheeled bins as the start of the county’s new recycling service gets ever
closer.
More than 70,000 bins
will be delivered to households throughout the county during September &
October, ready for the new recycling service starting on November 2nd.
At the moment
Herefordshire has a recycling rate of 34% and when the wheeled bin system comes
into operation, people will be able to recycle glass for the first time from
their kerbside. They will also be able
to place all of their recyclable materials into one container and by making recycling
easier, the Council aims to meet the government target of 40% by 2010.
An information pack
will be delivered with each wheeled bin, which not only explains how the
service works but also includes the new collection calendar as well as a sticker
to place on your bin. You are asked to
check this pack carefully as the collection day and time may change. Whilst the bins will arrive during September
and October please do not to use them until the new collection service starts
on November 2. Until then please continue
with your current recycling arrangements.
Where bins are not
suitable the Council will write to residents to inform them of the recycling sack
scheme that will be introduced at the same time.
The new recycling
scheme will operate on a fortnightly basis and residents will keep their weekly
black sack collection for household waste that cannot be recycled. A six-month supply of these bags will be
delivered to every household in the county.
Green garden waste
cannot be put into the wheeled bins so instead we’re asking people to either compost
it at home, take it to household waste sites or continue using the green sacks,
which can be bought from the Council and should be placed outside with the
black sacks for collection.
If you have any
questions or concerns about the new scheme please either send us an email on recycling@herefordshire.gov.uk
; call us on 01432 260051 or visit the Council’s website www.herefordshire.gov.uk where a
comprehensive list of Frequently Asked Questions can be found.
We hope that everyone
will find the new scheme easy and convenient to use and that this important
initiative will make our beautiful county even greener and cleaner.
