VILLAGE AMENITIES COMMITTEE

Minutes of the meeting of the Village Amenities Committee of Colwall Parish Council held on Wednesday 7th December 2011 at 7.30pm in the Jean Simon Room, Colwall Village Hall.

 

Present:

Councillors: G Rees, H Turner and Messrs Andrews, Beard, Mills and Milne

Co-opted member D Fisher and the Clerk.

 

1.         Welcome and Apologies.

The Chairman Councillor Beard welcomed those present.

Apologies were received and accepted from Councillors Carless and Abbotts

 

2.         Declaration of Interests.

None were declared.

 

3.         Minutes.

The minutes of Village Amenities Committee held on Wednesday 5th October 2011 were approved and signed by the Chairman.

 

4.         Amenities Budget.

i) A summary of the 2011/12 Amenities Committee’s year to date accounts was circulated by the Chairman of the Finance & General Purpose Committee Councillor Mills; a copy of which is attached to these minutes. The only item of note was the cost of repairs to the “Cableway” in Orlin Road play area earlier in the year, which Full Council had approved. All other costs are within the annual 2011/12 budget

 

5.         Sites Overview.

  1. Orlin Road Play Area (JA) – Reported to be in good condition. Request to strim around play equipment, Clerk will request Steven Maund to action.
  2. War Memorial Gardens (GR) – reported to be in good condition. Manure will be spread around rose bushes next week and new trail rose will be planted early 2012.
  3. Allens Meadow (MM) - Reported to be in good condition.
  4. Walwyn Meadow and Library Building (JB) – Reported to be in good condition. Christmas tree and lights are insitu and illuminated.
  5. Colwall Green (DF) – Reported to be in good condition. The dead lime tree has been felled by the Conservators. Comment was passed about the car parking on the Green, Councillor Rees advised that the Conservators are aware of the situation and it will be reviewed during a site visit over the next few weeks.
  6. Brookmill Play Area (JB) - Reported to be in good condition.
  7. Aunt Alice – (GR/JB) Reported to be in good condition. D Rees is continuing to monitor the time keeping via GPS and adjusting as required.
  8. Railway Gardens (MM) - Reported to be in good condition. Councillor Mills reported that a new seat will be installed on the platform by the Cotswold Line Promotion Group in memory of Ted Emery. It was agreed that this be located next to the new Shelter on the platform. Councillor Mills will confirm this location to the Cotswold Line Promotion Group.

 

6.         Parish Notice Boards. Village Seats and Litter Bins.

All notice boards, village seats and litter bins were reported to be in good order.

7.         Correspondence

            i) Following a request from a resident for a bench seat at the bus stop (en-route to Ledbury) outside Coca Cola Schweppes, which was approved at the last committee meeting, the Clerk has contacted and met with Highways to confirm the suitability of the proposed location and is awaiting their response. Subsequently, Miss C Ramsey of Old Church Road has offered to purchase a bench seat in memory of her parents and wishes it to be located near the Coca Cola factory site. IT WAS RESOLVED that this offer of a new seat be accepted subject to highways confirmation post the survey. The Clerk was instructed to send a suitable holding reply to Miss Ramsey.

ii) Quotation (ref Q529) from Branchworks of £165 to reduce cherry and red sycamore trees from phone lines and reshape trees, located in Walwyn Meadow. IT WAS RESOLVED that this quotation be accepted and the Clerk place an order for the works to be undertaken.

            iii) Email regarding possible supply of seat and tree in memory of J Green – former landlord of the Yew Tree, Colwall Green. IT WAS AGREED that the Parish Council has no objection to this request, subject to the tree being a native variety and the Conservators also having no objections. Councillor Mills will liaise with the family to ascertain the exact details of this request and the Clerk with the Conservators thereafter.

 

9.         Date of next meeting.

The next meeting of the Village Amenities Committee will be held on Wednesday 1st February 2012, in the Jean Simon Room at Colwall Village Hall.
